What’s For Dinner
Because I don’t cook, we eat a lot of soup, salad and hot dogs – poor hubby! It’s a good thing he didn’t marry me for my cooking. But we don’t starve; we go out to eat a lot, which makes me a food expert!
Here’s what I think about South Jersey’s dining establishments.
Warwick Tavern
400 South Warwick Road
Somerdale, NJ 08083
The Warwick Tavern is your friendly neighborhood bar. Good people, good bar food and good beer selection. It you like garlic, try the garlic fingers. Quite good! And the cheese steaks are a home run. The tavern has daily specials and free pool on Sundays. Definitely worth checking out.
Charlie Brown’s
1378 Little Gloucester Road
Clementon, NJ 08021
I hadn’t been to Charlie Brown’s in a while, but when I went back I remembered why I like to go there. Love the salad bar. Not huge; but a good selection of salads, dressings, toppings, and breads. A new menu peaked my interest, so I tried the seafood trio. While it wasn’t the best meal I’d ever eaten at Charlie Brown’s, it was pretty good for the price. My suggestion – stick with the prime rib!
Stone Grill
1300 Blackwood-Clementon Road
Clementon, New Jersey 08021
The Stone Grill has something for everyone. The dining room offers a variety of steaks and seafood, which offers a unique dining experience. Diners can cook their own meat on a hot stone. There’s also the inside bar that offers a night club atmosphere on the weekends. I recommend the outside bar on Friday nights. Here’s a sampling of the entertainment.
Red Square
2801 Pacific Avenue
Atlantic City, NJ 08401
(Tropicana Casino)
Red Square is a lovely high-end restaurant with great ambiance. Recommended to those who aren’t on a tight budget or are going out for a special occasion. Read the full review here.
Mandarin Cuisine
6 Somerdale Road
Blackwood NJ 08012
Mandarin Cuisine doesn’t look like much from the outside. Located in a plaza with a Wawa and dry cleaner, you might pass it by while it’s worth a second look. It offers a wide variety of Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. The staff is friendly, the service is prompt, and it’s reasonably priced. Read the full review here.
Casa D’Amico’s
69 Warwick Road
Stratford, NJ 08084
Casa D’Amico’s is a BYOB Italian restaurant with a selection of salads, veal, seafood, chicken and steak. It’s an affordable, family-friendly restaurant with decent food. I’d recommend this restaurant for locals; not something worth traveling for. Read the full review here.
Filomena Lakeview
1738 Cooper Street
Deptford, NJ 08096
Filomena’s is a casual to dressy Italian restaurant with a great selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, risottos and steaks. The options range in price, so based on your choice, you could spend $50 to $100 per couple. I’d recommend this restaurant for the food, but the service was a bit lacking. Be sure to check your glass before you take a drink.
